Evacuation Flight From Wuhan China Has Limited Capacity

According to a statement from the US Department of State, ‘we anticipate that there will be limited capacity to transport private U.S. citizens on a reimbursable basis on a single flight leaving Wuhan (China) Tianhe International Airport on January 28, 2020.

This statement is related to the expanding outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus named 2019-nCoV.

As of 08:56 (Beijing time) on January 26, 2020, China’s National Health Committees reported 2,071 confirmed cases and 56 2019-nCoV related fatalities.

This State Department statement published on January 26, 2020, continued saying ‘interested U.S. citizens in possession of valid passports should contact [email protected].

However, ‘this capacity is extremely limited and if there is insufficient ability to transport everyone who expresses interest, priority will be given to individuals at greater risk from coronavirus,’ said the State Department.

Previously, the US Department of State notified U.S. citizens via a Level 4 Travel Advisory on January 23, 2020, which said ‘travelers should be aware that the Chinese government could prevent them from entering or exiting parts of Hubei province.’

‘And, be prepared for travel restrictions to be put into effect with little or no advance notice.’

Moreover, this Travel Advisory said ‘the U.S. government has limited ability to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens in Hubei province.’

The Department of State previously ordered the departure of all non-emergency U.S. personnel and their family members on January 23, 2020.

From a health-risk perspective, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a Level 3 Travel Alert on January 24th, recommending travelers avoid all nonessential travel to Wuhan, China.

The CDC says coronaviruses are a large family of viruses.

And at least 2 previously identified coronaviruses have caused severe disease — severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) coronavirus and the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) coronavirus.

As of January 26, 2020, the US Food and Drug Administration has not approved any coronavirus preventive or therapeutic vaccine for the USA.
