Flu Shots Are Available at Local Pharmacies
One of the leading pharmacy chains in the USA recently confirmed the availability of influenza vaccines for the 2022-20223 flu season.
Illinois-based Walgreens announced on August 15, 2022, that about 9,000 store locations are now offering flu shots for anyone aged three years and older to help reduce the spread of illnesses.
Most importantly, influenza vaccines do not cause seasonal flu since they are made with either killed or weakened viruses.
The CDC confirmed on June 22, 2022, that 2022–2023 Northern Hemisphere influenza vaccines would include updated reference viruses for A(H3N2) (clade 3C.2a1b, subclade 2a.2) and B/Victoria (B/Austria/1359417/2021).
“Getting vaccinated is the best way to protect ourselves and those around us from flu and other vaccine-preventable illnesses,” stated Dr. Anita Patel, PharmD, vice president, pharmacy services development, Walgreens, in a related press release.
“To help save families a trip, Walgreens pharmacists are co-administering flu shots and other recommended vaccines during a single visit.”
This is essential news since the U.S. CDC has endorsed people getting both their annual flu shot and a COVID-19 booster when visiting a pharmacy.
Furthermore, the CDC supports most people over the age of six-months get a flu shot to prevent severe disease and potential fatalities.
The CDC recently confirmed there have been (33) pediatric fatalities related to influenza infections this season. This compares with just (1) fatality last flu season.
Vaccine manufacturers have already shipped over 110 million flu shots to the USA to ensure there is ample supply.
