Before thousands of Philadelphia Eagles fans head to the airport next week to fly south and attend the first-ever NFL regular season game in Sai Paulo, Brazil, it is recommended to consult a travel vaccine expert.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says several vaccine-preventable diseases, such as Chikungunya, Dengue, and Yellow Fever, are currently spreading in Brazil.

While one to two doses of an effective vaccine can prevent each disease, when and where to get the vaccination are variable.

Furthermore, visitors to Sao Paulo may have to present a 'vaccination certificate' upon arrival in Brazil.

Examples are Chikungunya vaccination may be considered for the following people aged 65 years or older, especially those with underlying medical conditions, who may spend at least two weeks in indoor or outdoor areas where mosquitoes are present in Brazil, or visitors planning to stay in Brazil for a cumulative period of six months or more.

The U.S. FDA has approved Valneva SE's IXCHIQ® vaccine.

Yellow Fever vaccinations are recommended for travelers over nine months old going to various states, including the city of São Paulo and all coastal islands.

Furthermore, travel diseases such as Dengue and Malaria are also health risks in Brazil this year.

Since these diseases and related vaccines require a personal consultation, speak with a local travel vaccine expert at Passport Health USA, a specialized pharmacy such as Wegmans Pharmacy, or the Philadelphia Public Health Department.

On August 27, 2024, Harry, a discrete lifelong Eagles fan, informed Precision Vaccination News he was unaware of the diseases spreading in Sao Paulo and would contact a Philadelphia-area travel vaccination clinic before departing for Brazil ahead of next week's NFL game.

This CDC travel vaccine advice also applies to the Green Bay Packers, the Eagles' opponent, on Friday, September 6,  2024, at the Corinthians Arena as part of the 2024 International Games.

Additionally, check with the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Brazil website for local health alerts and consider enrolling in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program to receive updates and information about emergency assistance.
