The WHO Teams Up Supporting Healthy Paris Olympics 2024
The World Health Organization (WHO) announced it will participate in the Paris Olympics 2024 in multiple fields, supporting the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and France to help make the world’s leading sports spectacle healthy and safe for spectators and athletes.
“Just as athletes and fans around the world have been preparing for the Paris Olympics, WHO has been working with the IOC and the Government of France to make sure these Games are healthy and safe for everyone involved,” said WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, in a press release on July 25, 2024.
“From promoting physical activity to protecting people from a range of health threats, WHO has been proud to play its part in making the Paris Olympics a success.”
The WHO discussed guidance on vaccines travelers may need before undertaking their journeys, protecting against various illnesses, such as respiratory diseases or mosquito- illnesses such as chikungunya, dengue, and malaria.
France's Ministry of Health wrote on June 20, 2024, that each traveler (to France) is requested to verify their vaccination status and consult their doctor for any request for a new vaccine or vaccination renewal. Depending on your age, place of residence, health conditions, and vaccination status, this vaccination renewal request may include vaccines against measles, whooping cough, tetanus, diphtheria, polio, and any other disease.
As international fans prepare to attend the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in late July and August 2024, the WHO suggests speaking with a travel vaccine consultant about which vaccinations are best for you this summer.
